NXT - 29th May 2019

We kicked this episode of NXT with a rematch between Mia Yim and Bianca Bel Air after Belair cheated to win a few weeks back by tying her hair around the ropes to help her get leverage on a roll up.

Mia Yim vs Bianca Bel Air - Great hard hitting match between the 2 and I can see these 2 women being at the top of the chain in the division very soon, especially if they carry on with performances like this. They were equalling each other before Yim managed to hit her finish, The Protect Ya Neck, and just like the debut single by the Wu-tang Clan, it hit hard and Mia Yim dealt Bel Air her first pin fall lose on NXT.

NXT Womens Champion Shayna Baszler, Maria Shafir and Jessamyne Duke had a group interview backstage with the interviewer asking about last weeks attack by Io Shirai with the Kendo Stick. Shayna rightly points out that at Takeover 25 on Saturday, she wont be allowed to use weapons and she also needs to worry about her mates, considering that Io has lost hers.

Kushida vs Drew Gulak - Some fantastic mat wrestling on show here and we are finally starting to see glimpses of the Kushida that was the ace of the Junior Heavyweight Divison in New Japan. His previous 2 match up were with bigger men and it didn’t quite flow as you would wish, but with the ground style offense of Gulak, their styles of wrestling certainly mixed well. Kushida picking up the victory after a turning a submission attempt into a unique roll up with Gulak clearly aggrieved about how this ‘newcomer’ got the better than him, calling the Time splitter a coward.

Io Shirai interview this time saying that she isn’t afraid of Shayna Baszler or her cronies. Candice Le Rae interrupts to thank Io for having her back last week and at Takeover, she will re pay the favour if needed.

A fantastic video package hyping up the NXT Championship match between Champion Johnny Gargano and Adam Cole, go and watch it.

Oney Lorcan & Danny Burch vs Forgotten Sons - Didn’t take long in the match before Jaxson Ryker got ejected to the back for some interferences and while he was storming off, Street Profits came out to beat him down and drive him into the LED board at the top of the ramp. The match gets thrown out with Profits jumping in and taking out Forgotten Sons, but with Profits and Lorcen/Burch staring off in the ring, The Sons came back with chairs in hand and started to upset the system, but they didn’t shock it, with Undisputed Era throwing a recovering Jaxson Ryker off the ramp and then taking out the other 2 teams. They look back up the ramp and once again, Ryker was starting to get back to his feet, so there was only thing to do, ram a ladder into his face. All 4 members of the Era surrounded the ladder with Adam Cole claiming that at Takeover it will indeed be Undistpued.

NXT Rating - *** 3/4 - A really good showing, NXT have this knack where, unlike the main roster, you NEED to watch the Go Home show to a PPV because if you do, you could miss some vital storyline progressions. Undisputed Era have dominated these past 2 NXTs and its come across believable. Womens Championship match is coming along well and I honestly don’t know who will come out on top in that. Only qualm with NXT at the moment is that the Tag Division seems to be a bit of a mess, but i’m sure all that will be forgotten on Saturday in the Ladder match.
